5 Fun Glamping Destinations in Missouri

With multiple rivers, national forests and abundant wildlife, glamping in Missouri can be a fun way to experience the great outdoors - without roughing it too much.

When my husband and I were newlyweds, we went on a three-day backpacking trip, miles away from other people and modern plumbing – a test of our wedding vows if there ever was one.

It was fun when we were in our 20s, but fortunately, camping options have evolved over the years. Today, couples, families and friends have to option to “glamp” – camping with glamorous twist.

For those unfamiliar, glamping allows you to sleep under the stars in a real bed with a real floor under your feet. The tent is usually a very sturdy canvas, big enough to stand upright and walk around in. While each setting is unique to the location, glamping sites are usually furnished like rustic standalone hotel rooms.

In our home state of Missouri, we have lots of glamping options that showcase the Show Me State’s beautiful outdoors, provide plenty of comfort and yes, can be considered romantic. But families and friends can have a great time at these picks too.

Find Adventure Glamping on the Missouri River

St. Charles has been a destination for adventure lovers since the days of Lewis and Clark starting their famous journey here on the banks of the Missouri River.

Harbor Breeze is a glamping site on a dock on the big river, complete with air conditioning, mini-fridge and microwave. Just a few steps away is a little building that contains a full bathroom and tiny kitchen; though if you plan to cook, you might need to bring some equipment. Camp cots for kids are available to make it a family vacay.

A colorful umbrella keeps the dock cool and comfortable in the summer months. At the nearby marina, canoes and other equipment can be rented to explore the little island across the river channel.

Experience Mother Nature at the Confluence of Two Great Rivers

The Missouri and Mississippi Rivers are North America’s two biggest waterways. Where they converge, just northeast of downtown St. Charles, is a spectacular destination for watching waterfowl, eagles and sunrises.

This glamping destination reflects the natural beauty of the region in its name – Heron’s Nest.

Open your tent flap to watch the sun go up across the Mississippi River and wildlife drink from its waters. Bask in the power of Mother Nature in this remote spot. Big enough for two adults and two kids, this is a perfect place for families to reconnect. A heated shower and climate control in the tent are what glamping is all about.
