America has spoken: we love our coasts and the quaint inns on the seaside that accompany them.

Cannery Pier Hotel

1/2

The Cannery Pier Hotel brings the sea literally below your feet. Built 600 feet out onto the water on the old Union Fish Cannery, this hotel setting is more than unique. Sweeping views of the Columbia River, the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, the Astoria-Megler Bridge, and Washington State await visitors. Equally jaw-dropping are the views from the rooms, each with its own private balcony and an addictive set of binoculars perfect for spotting frolicking sea lions. You’ll also enjoy warming up next to your fireplace or swinging down to the sunset-drenched lobby in the evenings for the nightly wine reception. The property is decorated with understated yet warm furnishings that fit in with the architectural feel of the hotel.

The Cannery Pier Hotel is located slightly out of town, but getting a drive in one of the hotel’s complimentary chauffeured classic cars to dinner is an experience in itself. The upscale hotel won a 5-star trivago Award for 2017 — and with its perch upon the riverside coupled with its luxurious amenities, the Cannery Pier Hotel is an excellent choice for any Pacific Northwest adventure.

Cuthbert House

1/2

The Cuthbert House first lured visitors when it was built to take advantage of the breeze rolling in from Beaufort Bay over 200 years ago. The pre-Civil War waterfront mansion proved to be a national favorite with its win in the Alternative accommodation category of the trivago Awards 2017. This antebellum inn on the seaside still bears many relics of its history: 18th century moldings, the formal Charleston gardens and black marble mantel forever inscribed with the graffitied names of Federal soldiers who were posted at the house during the 1862 Union army occupation. Some rooms are even outfitted with precious antique beds, including a very covetable four-poster rice bed and a carved cherry bed in another room. Clawfoot or whirlpool tubs complete the picture of absolute coziness, along with the working gas fireplaces.

The included Southern-style breakfast is made hot every morning in-house and provides the necessary fuel to taking the inn’s loaner bikes out for a spin around the National Historic Landmark District of Beaufort. Cuthbert House is located near many restaurants, art galleries and boutique shops that round out this picturesque seaside experience.

Fort Condé Inn

1/2

A location in the heart of Mobile surrounded by century oaks, gas lamp streetlights and brick streets lend more of a village feel than summer seaside town but the coast and some of Alabama’s best beaches are only a short drive away. We persist in referring to the Fort Condé Inn as one of our favorite inns on the seaside, especially seeing as the Inn won a trivago Award in the 4-star category. Visitors laud the Inn’s breakfast as both exquisite and legendary: take it in the communal dining room, take it out in the shaded courtyard or take it in the comfort and privacy of your bed. Across the board, it’s cooked fresh by Chef Robbie with a rotating selection of entrées that remind you of the Inn’s proximity to the Bay. Guest favorites include a Seafood Benedict and Blue Crab served with freshly baked biscuits. It’s both luxurious and homey, much like the Inn itself.

Accommodation at the Fort Condé Inn varies from the spacious rooms in Mobile’s second oldest house dating back to 1836 to the larger historic private cottages. Each room has been beautifully restored and filled with a selection of art, antiques, exceptionally soft linens, and outfitted with all the modern technological trimmings. Large parlors encourage guests to mingle and a veranda beckons for one last nightcap while listening to the cicadas.

Black Dolphin Inn

1/2

For lovers of seaside abodes, the Spanish styled but modernly outfitted Black Dolphin Inn brings you as close as you can get to the seaside feeling. The property begins at its private dock, which leads up the lawn, decorated with colorful Adirondack chairs and a house facade dominated by private guest room balconies and terraces. Views from most of the guest rooms sweep endlessly across the Indian River and come thoughtfully complete with binoculars to use for dolphin spotting. Rooms are decorated with authentic mid-century modern pieces and original art, and are brightly awash with natural light.

This trivago Award-winning inn in the alternative accommodation category evidently takes its seaside location seriously: complimentary seaside themed amenities include surfboards and boogie boards to bring to the consistent surf breaks of the Ponce de Leon Inlet, as well as beach towels, chairs and umbrellas and even fishing poles. Weekend guests befit from the full Southern breakfasts with a slightly pared-down version waking weekday guests.

The Marquesa

The Marquesa paints a picture perfect Key West seaside image. A mere five blocks from the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, this quiet oasis showcases all the best bits of Key West. Porches overlook two pools surrounded by a maintained wild garden full of geckos and iguanas getting on with their business in Key West’s typical laid-back fashion. The building which today houses the Marquesa was originally four “conch” houses originally built in 1884 that were joined together to form the pastel and gingerbread trimmed building we see today.

Rooms are decorated in soothing tones that play with the natural light. The furniture comes from all corners of the world including bed hailing from as far as Indonesia and teak tables from the Philippines harmonizing with the overall island scheme. The Marquesa sees its fair share of return guests, so it was only natural they should land on the trivago Awards for 2017 in the 4-star category.
