Time seems to slow down as my husband and I roll across the border from New Jersey into Pennsylvania. The trees become denser, the air crisper, and the rushing waters of the Delaware Water Gap clearer as we’re transported to complete relaxation in the Poconos. Fall is my favorite time of year for a getaway, and today the leaves are a rainbow of autumn hues, with foliage spanning gold to persimmon to crimson to plum.
We arrive at our bed and breakfast and head out onto our private porch, watching the sunset over the mountains, glasses of wine in hand. Then we head just steps away to a romantic dinner for two. The next day we explore the area’s waterfalls, pick apples, and relax on a hike around the grounds. It’s all part of a romantic weekend retreat that feels like we’ve been transported to a faraway resort even though we’re just two hours from home.
Pennsylvania is the perfect couples escape, offering easy access from New York State, New Jersey, Connecticut, and the New York City, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh metropolitan areas with an array of properties ranging from intimate boutique inns to stylish city hideaways, so the two of you can spend quality time together without having to fling half way around the world.
