7 Spas in San Antonio Where You Can Spend The Night

At these spas in San Antonio, you'll find options for everyone from nature lovers to those who prefer a southwest vibe. Plus, a hotel to spend the night.

A spa experience in San Antonio is like stumbling into a secret, tranquil world within this buzzing city. Whether I’m calming my mind in the silky waters of a saline pool with a view of lush green Hill Country or hidden away in a cool, dark massage room for a treatment with invigorating native botanicals—I know I will emerge ready to face another high-energy day in the city.

Located just an hour southwest of the capital city of Austin, San Antonio is a down to earth, festive and outdoors-oriented city with beer gardens galore and a rapidly evolving culinary scene. After a long day exploring the famous Spanish colonial missions, wandering through old-brewery-turned-city hotspot Pearl District, strolling along the River Walk and devouring the feisty flavors of Tex-Mex cuisine in hip Southtown, it’s time to slow down at one of the city’s best hotel spas.

A San Antonio Spa For Nature Lovers

1/4

Nature lovers, the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Windflower Spa is your kind of spa. After a ridiculously rejuvenating treatment like the Lemongrass Mimosa Wrap, sidle up to the snack bar for hot tea and coffee, raspberry-blackberry infused water, hot chocolate or small snacks. You could enjoy your treats inside on the comfy leather couch surrounded by Texas-themed coffee table books or you could step out onto the rustic, wraparound covered porch and take in the empty golf course green views from a giant, cushion-filled swing or a rocking chair.

Meditation comes easy as you sip your cranberry mimosa and rest your gaze upon the koi pond of shiny lily pads, bamboo plants, and shimmery red and yellow fish darting about. Feeling energetic? Take a few laps in the tree-shaded pool then jump into the hot tub. Otherwise, stick to the wide hammock or the enormous round cushion swing, and admire the roses dotting the fence that surrounds the pool area.

The self-care fun never ends here. Windflower Spa hosts outdoor yoga classes as well as DIY skincare workshops on the weekends, so you can make your own essential oil-based body scrub or facial moisturizer. If you don’t book a service, a $35 day pass gets you access to all of the facilities, indoors and out. Large groups might be interested in renting out the nearby “Sunday House,” which includes the use of a golf cart to transport yourselves around the resort property.

A Sanctuary High Above The City

1/4

The zen landscaping and walkway that leads to the entrance of Loma de Vida (“Hill of Life”) Spa at La Cantera Resort gives you a taste of the ambiance within this sanctuary that sits high above the city. For couples or group experiences, the spa offers an impressive selection of private garden cabanas and sky lofts with private deck, soaking tub and shower to enjoy treatments (like a Linda Meredith Oxygen Facial) and luxurious, intimate seclusion, all with an unbeatable view. Upon check-in, guests receive a water- and heat-proof RFID bracelet as a locker key, and the locker room provides everything you forgot, including shave gel and a plastic bag for your wet swimsuit.

Inside the solarium room of the spa, take a soak in the saline pool, and gaze out of the wall-to-ceiling windows that frame the lush Hill Country landscape and wide-open Texas sky. Step into the herbal steam room or try the experience shower, where you can exfoliate with the provided Himalayan salt crystal scrub.

White cushioned daybeds face the windows, great for a post-massage chat, or you can move over to the open air patio with additional daybeds. Downstairs, the spa’s Quenche Bistro has a menu of sandwiches, salads and acai bowls as well as fruit smoothies and freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices with ginger, turmeric, and other super healthy additives. As sunset transforms the Hill Country sky from fiery orange to pastel pink and lilac, sip on an Island Cooler juice, and watch the celestial show from the adults-only infinity pool that beckons one floor down from the spa.

A Spa on San Antonio's Famous River Walk

1/4

Sitting right on the famous San Antonio River Walk, the Mokara Hotel and Spa dedicates its upper floor to one of the most exclusive spa experiences in the city. As if a soothing whirlpool, eucalyptus-infused steam room or dry sauna wasn’t enough, the relaxation lounge is a quiet space lined with chaise lounges, plump cushions, and soft blankets where you wait for your treatment (perhaps a Nirvana Stress Relief massage with cardamom, neroli and holy basil?) in one of 18 treatment rooms.

Once the session is complete, you’re led back to the lounge and handed a platter of fresh fruit, cucumber water, and a heated, lavender-scented neck pillow. The whirlpool is the largest part of this 17,000 square foot, four-star spa, with wide white candles decorating one wall, and a balcony that looks out over the River Walk if you feel like showing off your glowing face to the passersby below.

Alternative Therapies for Holistic Healing at this Spa in San Antonio

1/3

While most spas leave you soothed, relaxed and polished from head to toe, this spa takes things to the next level. Located a 10-minute drive from downtown San Antonio, the Puresol Spa at the Embassy Suites by Hilton San Antonio focuses on alternative therapies for holistic healing of the mind and body. For starters, there’s the Therapeutic Cupping Massage, an ancient Chinese technique to promote circulation and healing. But the real star of the show at Puresol Spa is the halotherapy salt cave.

Halotherapy is not some kind of new fad. Europeans have been taking advantage of the healing and detoxifying powers of salt crystals for centuries. To construct its own salt cave, Puresol Spa imported 22 tons of salt rock harvested from the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland. Spend 30 minutes to 45 minutes lounging or napping in the cave with your provided blanket, and let your body do the work of absorbing healing minerals and purifying ions from the salt. Research has found that halotherapy aids in the relief of asthma, allergies, anxiety, exhaustion, poor circulation, gastritis, and many other ailments.
