Best Hotels for Spring Training Baseball in Arizona’s Cactus League

Spring Training is that glorious time of year that lets you know baseball is around the corner. For those of you heading down to get a sneak peek of your favorite team, we've got a hotel to match near the stadium.

Spring training baseball is almost here and it’s never too early to start planning your trip to Arizona around your favorite team. We know you’re heading to town strictly for the baseball and that the hotel is secondary. That said, you’ll still want someplace comfortable to rest your head and we’re already seeing limited availability in March with hotels near the stadiums, so you’ll want to get booking.

Catching Cactus League Spring Training baseball is a sports fan’s dream. Here you have 15 teams spread across 10 stadiums, all within the greater Phoenix region but spread out just enough that you get to see a number of different towns and cities along the way. Plus, the desert heat sure is nice if you’re following your team south from a northern winter city.

Below, we have all of the Cactus League stadiums complete with their teams and hotel options near the ballpark.

Stay Near Surprise Stadium

The Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers call Surprise Stadium in Surprise home for Spring Training. At Residence Inn Phoenix Northwest – Surprise, you’ll not only be located just a five-minute walk away from the stadium but also staying at one of the top-rated hotels in town.

The aparthotel offers spacious studios and suites with fully-equipped kitchens, plus an outdoor pool and a whirlpool to relax between games. Only visiting for baseball with no interest in special amenities? Fair enough – but these comfortable accommodations coupled with the location really can’t be beaten.

Surprise is right on the edge of the greater Phoenix area’s footprint, so if you want to explore the region’s nature, head west where you’ll hit White Tank Mountain Regional Park and miles of desert.

Stay Near Goodyear Ballpark

It’s all Ohio at Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear, where the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds set up camp for Spring Training baseball. Unfortunately, there’s nothing within a comfortable walk from the ballpark, so your best bet for proximity is Comfort Suites Goodyear.

As the name suggests, the property offers comfortable suites less than a five-minute drive from Goodyear Ballpark. Don’t expect anything extravagant, but the accommodation offers everything you need for a careless stay near your favorite baseball team.

Stay Near Peoria Sports Complex

The San Diego Padres don’t have too far to travel for Spring Training, playing their March ball at Peoria Sports Complex in Peoria. They share the facility with the Seattle Mariners, who take a trip down from the Pacific coast. Fans heading here are in luck with a handful of well-rated properties within a short walk to the stadium, with the Residence Inn Phoenix Glendale/Peoria offering the best balance between location and comfort.

Less than a 10-minute walk from the stadium, the modern suites are spacious enough to fit you and your buddies or even families. Cook dinner in the fully equipped kitchen or head to one of the countless restaurants in the area. After dinner, relax poolside or head out to explore your surroundings. The options are endless.

Stay Near Camelback Ranch

Following consecutive defeats in the 2017 and 2018 World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers will look to regroup for another run at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, sharing the ballpark with the Chicago White Sox. Unfortunately, Camelback Ranch has no hotels in immediate proximity, but there are nice options not too far from the stadium.

Check in to Staybridge Suites Phoenix-Glendale to couple Dodgers or White Sox games with a relaxing stay soaking in the Arizona sun. The suites offer ample space for yourself and company, and the outdoor pool area invites guests to hang out and unwind. From here, you can also reach Phoenix in a little over 20 minutes by car.

Stay Near Maryvale Baseball Park

Ironically, the only Spring Training ballpark in Phoenix is one of the most isolated. Cheeseheads coming out from Wisconsin to see the Milwaukee Brewers will be spending their time in a residential corner of Phoenix at Maryvale Baseball Park.

At La Quinta Inn & Suites Phoenix I-10 West, you’ll be a little ways away from the action, but it’s as close as you can get. But look at the positives: the property, featuring roomy and well-equipped suites, will put you within a 15-minute drive from downtown Phoenix. So if you aren’t only coming for baseball, this is the perfect compromise.

Stay Near Tempe Diablo Stadium

Heading away from Phoenix, across the Salt River in Tempe, you can find Tempe Diablo Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Angels, who are another one of the lucky teams to have a Spring Training Stadium all to themselves. Better yet: guests at Phoenix Marriott Resort Tempe at The Buttes are located within sight of the stadium and simply have to cross the road to get to Angels games.

Just make sure you don’t miss the first pitch because you’re off dipping in the pool or enjoying a massage – this resort is well worth a trip, no matter if baseball is part of the plan.

Scottsdale Stadium

Once again, there’s no sharing when it comes to Scottsdale Stadium and the San Francisco Giants, and fans coming down for Spring Training will have no problem finding a hotel nearby. For an accommodation close to both the stadium and Scottsdale Old Town, pick the Courtyard Scottsdale Old Town.

The hotel puts you within a 10-minute stroll of the stadium and Old Town. If you keep walking a little longer, you’ll reach Downtown Scottsdale and eventually the Entertainment District and Waterfront. After a long day watching baseball and exploring the city’s other offerings, bury your head in the comfortable pillows of your modern hotel room and recharge for what lies ahead.

Stay Near Salt River Fields at Talking Stick

While other teams are forced to travel for miles and miles to get to Arizona for Spring Training, there’s one team that doesn’t need to worry: the Arizona Diamondbacks are basically home playing their Spring Training baseball at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale. Sharing with them: The Colorado Rockies.

The obvious accommodation choice (aka. the closest) is Talking Stick Resort, and if one thing is certain, it’s that you won’t leave disappointed here. The resort offers modern luxury at an affordable rate, conveniently close to the D-Backs and Rockies.

Stay Near Sloan Park

We’re in Mesa, Arizona, where the Chicago Cubs have Sloan Park to themselves. But not only that, they even have a road, Cubs Way, named in their honor. Just a couple minutes’ walk down the road from the ballpark: Sheraton Mesa at Wrigleyville West.

Equipped with all the necessities plus a long list of extras, including a large pool area decorated with palm trees and a swanky, elegant bar, this hotel is an excellent option for Cubs fans and anyone else looking to watch some baseball and enjoy the sun in Arizona.

Stay Near Hohokam Stadium

It’s Mesa again, and this time to check out the Spring Training home of the Oakland Athletics — Hohokam Stadium. If for some reason you happen to be both a Cubs and A’s fan, you’re in luck, because the Hyatt Place Phoenix Mesa just about splits the distance between the two ballparks. But even if you’re only here for the Athletics, you’ve found the right place to stay.

The hotel brings all the comforts and conveniences you’d expect from Hyatt, from spacious and modern rooms to a nice outdoor pool area and a fully stocked bar, just over a five-minute car ride away from Hohokam Stadium.
