The World Baseball Classic Is More Expensive Than The World Series

By , March 16th, 2017

Using trivago data, we examined how hotels are coping with the increased demand over the international tournament. Already, demand for the championship series is high, with over 80-percent of hotels in Los Angeles already booked. Hotel rates in the city average $259 per night. For comparison sake, these rates are even higher than Cleveland and Chicago hotels during the World Series, which, between the two cities, averaged $247/night.

So how much will a trip to the championships in L.A. set supporters back?

Well, for starters, ticket prices on StubHub start at $20 for the first two games and $39 for a possible Game 3 finale, which is fairly cheap considering this year’s tournament has been shattering previous WBC records. Here’s how hotel prices look for the duration of the series:

Date Price
March 20 $265
March 21 $261
March 22 $253

Search Period: March 1 to March 14

Travelers on a budget, though, should know that these “average prices” factor in the star-studded L.A. hotels that cost over $3,000 per night, which can skew the numbers. So there shouldn’t be any concern over finding an affordable hotel for the finals. There are plenty of hotel options for under $100/night.
